Taste by Kate Evangelista (Author Interview + Giveaway!)

Taste

Goodreads summary: At Barinkoff Academy, there's only one rule: no students on campus after curfew. Phoenix McKay soon finds out why when she is left behind at sunset. A group calling themselves night students threaten to taste her flesh until she is saved by a mysterious, alluring boy. With his pale skin, dark eyes, and mesmerizing voice, Demitri is both irresistible and impenetrable. He warns her to stay away from his dangerous world of flesh eaters. Unfortunately, the gorgeous and playful Luka has other plans. When Phoenix is caught between her physical and her emotional attraction, she becomes the keeper of a deadly secret that will rock the foundations of an ancient civilization living beneath Barinkoff Academy. Phoenix doesn't realize until it is too late that the closer she gets to both Demitri and Luka the more she is plunging them all into a centuries old feud.

The Author

When Kate Evangelista was told she had a knack for writing stories, she did the next best thing: entered medical school. After realizing she wasn't going to be the next Doogie Howser, M.D., Kate wandered into the Literature department of her university and never looked back. Today, she is in possession of a piece of paper that says to the world she owns a Literature degree. To make matters worse, she took Master's courses in creative writing. In the end, she realized to be a writer, none of what she had mattered. What really mattered? Writing. Plain and simple, honest to God, sitting in front of her computer, writing.

When Ms. Kate Evangelista said yes to both my interview and giveaway requests, I died and went to happy land! Andthencamebacktolifeaftertenminutesofbreathingcalmly.

Off to the interview!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm a writer of young adult fiction with my debut novel, Taste, already available wherever books are sold. My second novel, Reaping Me Softly, is coming out in October. Watch out for that!

What inspired you to write Taste?

At the high school I used to teach at, they ring a bell in the afternoons to signal to the students that they can't roam campus anymore and wait for their parents at the gate. Of course, there's a very innocent explanation, but in my head, something more mysterious happens at night. This is why Taste begins with Phoenix waking up in the library after sunset.

How does it feel to have your books published?

Surreal. I've thought about being published for so long that having my books already published doesn't seem real. It only really got real for me once I saw a physical copy of my book for the first time.

Any new projects you have in mind?

Besides Reaping Me Softly, I have another young adult novel coming out with Entangled Publishing. It's an urban fantasy that I can't wait to shave with everyone.

Advice or tips for aspiring authors?

Prepare for the wait. There's a lot of waiting involved when it comes to writing and getting published. When you think you're losing your patience, you need to find more within you or else you'll end up quitting before you get to where you need to be.

She even has a special message!
I would like to take this time to thank Raizza for letting me hang out at her blog today. I totally enjoyed answering her questions. If you're from the Philippines and want a copy of Taste, head on over to The Book Depository. They deliver free to the Philippines. Grab your copy today! I dare you to break curfew.
