Author Interview with Tara Fuller

The Author

I met Ms. Fuller on Twitter a few months ago. I learned she was a YA author. She's the author of Perigee Moon and the Kissed by Death series. So, I tried to read some excerpts of her books online and I immediately fell in love with her storytelling ability! I swooned over her writing style and just wished I wrote like her. Alas! I suck! So, my stalker mode switched on and I think I pestered her too much. Sorry, Ms. Fuller :(

I haven't read one of her books, but the excerpts convinced me she is an AWESOME writer! I just had to interview her and dissect her thoughts. Through Goodreads, I was able to send her a message, telling her that I would love to interview her andIbeggedforgiveaways. Unbelievably, and to my surprise, she said yes! And I just had to do my awesome dance again.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am originally from Oklahoma, but now live in North Carolina. I love Mystery Science Theater movies, black and white mochas, and zombie novels. I have been writing pretty much my whole life. I got my first job at a newspaper when I was nineteen years old.

How does it feel to have your books published?

It feels amazing. Sometimes it still doesn't feel real. It's a dream come true for me.

Can you tell us a little about Perigee Moon and Inbetween?

Perigee Moon is a YA paranormal book about a girl named Rowan who falls in love with boy who has time traveled from the Salem Witch Trials.

Inbetween is the first book in the Kissed by Death series, and it is about a grim reaper named Finn who falls in love with the girl he is sent to reap.

What gave you the idea to write these books? What inspired you?

I get my inspiration from a lot of places. Music, books, documentaries. Inbetween was inspired by an Edgar Allen Poe quote and a documentary on reincarnation.

Can you give us a little teaser for the second book of the Kissed by Death series?

Unfortunately I can't give that just yet. My editor hasn't even gotten a chance to see book 2 yet. It's still not finished. ;)

Are there characters in your books that are like you?

 

Emma is like me a little. We both like to read and bake.

Who are your favorite authors? Have they influenced you in any way?

Edgar Allen Poe, Maggie Stiefvater, and Kresley Cole just to name a few. I'd say Poe definitely influenced the dark stories I like to tell.

Do you have any advice or tips for aspiring writers?

Don't give up. It's not easy to get your foot in the door in publishing, but perseverance is the one thing that is key to your success. Also,take constructive criticism and learn from it.

Favorite books?

I have a lot of favorite books. My favorite book that I've read lately would have to be VELVETEEN by Daniel Marks. It was amazing.

Countries you would like to visit?

I have been lucky enough to visit a lot of countries in my life. I've been to Mexico and all over Europe. But the one place I've never been to but would love to visit would be Ireland.

Language you would like to learn?

French or Italian. They are such beautiful languages.

Musical instruments you play, or wish to play?

I play guitar a little. But I would love to learn to play the drums or piano someday.

Favorite songs and singers/bands?

I have too many to list, lol. But right now I adore the band City and Colour. Their song Northern Wind is awesome.

Favorite True Blood character?
